Art Basel 2015
What a weekend! Art Basel is the world’s best art, party, and networking event all in one place. There are many events including dozens of satellite art fairs and outdoor galleries. Our friends at the Bushwick Collective put together their very own outdoor museum. Basel House was a large outdoor event and art space in the old RC Cola Factory housing some of our favorite events over the weekend.

The Wynwood District where most of the street art of the weekend takes place is a tribute to the late Tony Goldman who imagined the transformation from Ghetto to Art Haven. Also famous for creating the Bowery Wall in Manhattan, Goldman could not have imagined what he started. Wynwood has now hundreds of walls from many of the great street artists of our day.

Many international street artists come to showcase their talents. We met artists from the Czech Republic, Russia, Peru, and even Indonesia. We ran into many gallery owners and art critics eager to take these street artists and transform them into the next big thing. Below is one of our favorites artists from Chile, Dasic Fernandez and his always beautiful color array.

The Epic muraling was headlined this year by our meeting with Kobra and the lifelike portraiture of Bob Dylan, Mozart, Israel Hernandez an artist who was killed during last year’s Basal fest. We were amazed at the large scale art being down in such short periods of time. All of these works were finished in three or four days. The realism and detail of these artists has really become a feat unto itself.

Probably the downfall of this year’s Basal was the epic and frequent rainstorms. Often times, artists would be halted by the rain in the midst of painting with almost no warning. We were catching up with Drew and Cyrcle when disaster struck and I had to hustle out of the rain. Cyrcle, Drew, and Tristan all just ignored it and kept doing what they were doing.
